Sahel Academy Spirit Week!

Last week at my school it was Spirit Week where we dress up and do fun stuff. We do it to encourage our baseball teams before they play in a big tournament here in Niamey. Each day we dress up for a different theme. Monday was rock star so I spiked my hair and wore sunglasses.

Tuesday was crazy hat day. I put 4 hats on: 1 of my sisters, my bike helmet, another baseball cap & an african hat.

The rest of the week my mom forgot to take pictures! Wednesday was Fairy Tale day and I was the Frog Prince, Thursday was Somewhere Else Day and I went late because I had an infection in my eye and so didn't get dressed up. Friday was Spirit Day and we all wore our School Colors and we had a Pep Rally to encourage the teams. And there was a competition for cheers and my class won for the elementary grades. Our prize was a BIG chocolate cake mmmmm yum. The Sahel Suns won the tournament so I guess our cheers worked. All the teams for Sahel Academy were: Social Suns, Scorpions and Sahel Suns. It was a fun weekend!

Glasses & Bike!!

September 29th I got glasses!! I wasn't seeing very good at school so I & my teacher asked my parents if I could get my eyes checked. The father of one of the students from Sahel Academy who is an opthamologist here in Niamey asked me a bunch of questions like "Can you see this better than this" and stuff like that. He gave my parents a piece a paper and we got the glasses at his clinic. They only cost 13,000FCFA. My parents were very happy about that!!

This is a picture of me with Ethel, Sunflower and my bike. My bike is from Canada and it came in a container that our new team members brought out. Me and my best friend Youssouf go for bike rides and I know lots of tricks now. I like my bike very much and it's fun.

Canada - Summer 2008 Highlights!

We went to Canada this summer and did lots of fun things and here are some of them.

I had my real birthday party and got a bow & arrow, water gun, games, knife thing, underwater mask, computer games etc. We had a wiener roast at my cousins' house and had lots of fun.

The next couple weeks were busy getting ready for my sister Jemma's wedding. I was the ring bearer and I had to walk down the aisle with the flower girl.

At the end of our trip we went to the Vancouver Aquarium and saw a baby beluga that was just weeks old. She doesn't have a name yet but she's really cute. Jemma and I put our heads up inside this fun thing and we had little frogs all around us. Look real close and you can see some on the wood in front of us.

I hope this video works of the baby beluga and his mom. If you can go to the aquarium you will love seeing the belugas.
I think that the very last really fun thing we did was go to the Celebration of Lights in Vancouver. We saw the US show and it was so amazing. Here is one picture but I wish that I could put up lots more.

School year 08-09 has started for me so I am now officially in 5th grade. I'll be changing my blog name and watch for more blogs.

Early Birthday Party!

I had an early birthday because we are leaving for Canada for Jemma's wedding, school is almost out and some of my friends are leaving for their Home Assignment. We went to the pool and played. Then we came home and played on the trampoline. We bobbed for apples and played Need for Speed 3 on the computer. We had lots of fun and stayed up until 12 in the night.

We woke up at 5:40AM, played Need for Speed 3 again and then jumped on the trampoline and had water balloon fights (no pictures because dad & mom were sleeping).

Boys will be boys and here is my cake. Some of it isn't iced because Justin doesn't like icing. Thanks for sharing my Early Birthday with me!!

Boys' Club

Every week on Thursday I have Boys' Club. We play games, read the Bible and stuff and do science projects. This week we made a cooker. You take a can, cut part of the side and fold it in. Put 3 triangular holes 5mm apart on the opposite side of the hole. Then you take a tuna can and put melted wax over cut and rolled cardboard. You can cook all kinds of things like french toast, eggs etc. You should try it.

This is a picture of me and my best friend John cooking french toast at my house. If you look really close in the hole you can see the fire.

Parc W

Parc W was named for the shape of the river that runs through it. It resembles a W. Parc W is full of life and animals. For example cheetahs, lots of birds, lots of DLTs (Deer Like Things), elephants, crocodiles, turtles, snakes, baboons, monkeys, water buffaloes, ants, lions, warthogs etc.

We went there 2 days after Christmas and camped in tents on the edge of the Niger River. We saw lots of animals and for the first time 2 elephants. We had lots of fun but froze at night because it was so cold. My friend John and his family were also at Parc W and we had lots of fun together.

Christmas Time is Here

Christmas Eve was special because we had my teacher Miss B come for Kumla supper. I didn't eat very much but Miss B didn't mind it at all. We also opened presents and I got to play Santa Claus and then we played Phase 10.This Christmas I got a Chemistry Kit (which I probably will never use) , a Lego Fire Truck, Rush Hour Game, Gameboy game - Tony Hawkes Underground 2, a giraffe for my giraffe collection and the family got a very fun DVD set, Planet Earth & Blue Planet. (I like the Blue Planet more than Planet
Earth. Thanks sibs in Canada!)

Field Day Fun!

Field Day was in November, a very warm time. I had tons of fun and my team was the Grey Goats. I did Softball Push, 100 meter race, 200 meter race, long jump, broad jump and a relay race. My friends and I had a competition to see who was the fastest. I was 3rd place but when I took my running shoes off and ran in my bare feet, I was 2nd place. Here is a picture of me and my team in the humongous stadium where we had our Field Day.
